2026 Board Member Spotlight: Kayla Wiggins, Membership Director

Tell us about your firm:
Turner Construction Company is an international construction services company offering a broad range of services beyond building. We’ve been part of the San Antonio community for more than 40 years. What I appreciate most about Turner is that, despite our size, we genuinely care about people, value relationships, and are committed to making a positive impact in the communities where we live and work.

How did you get your start in the A/E/C industry?
I sort of fell into the A/E/C industry by way of marketing and design, a pretty common story in our industry! Once I was here, I got to see the business behind the buildings and loved being part of it. More than 10 years later, I’m still here and still learning something new all the time.

What advice would you give someone considering future board service?
Go for it! Joining a committee and then the board has been one of the best ways I’ve made the most of my SMPS membership. It’s where my relationships really blossomed and where I’ve had the opportunity to learn from and alongside peers across the industry. Getting involved made SMPS feel like much more than a professional organization.

What major trends are shaping our industry right now, and how should our members be preparing for them?
Our roles are continuing to evolve, especially as technology changes how some of our work gets done. Marketing in A/E/C isn’t just about proposals. It’s about understanding how our work fits into the bigger picture of a project, the overall client relationship, and the teams within our firms. As our roles expand, I think it’s important to stay curious and continue building the skills that make us valuable: relationships, strategic thinking, creativity, and communication.
