2026 Board Member Spotlight: Jeanette Scarsdale, CPSM, Communications Director

Tell us about your firm:
DBR is a full-service MEP engineering consulting firm that has been serving clients since 1972. Today, we have more than 200 professionals across eight offices in Texas and New Mexico, providing MEP engineering, commissioning, integrated technology, and security consulting services. Our growth has been built on long-term client relationships, a collaborative approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to delivering responsive, high-quality service.
How did you get your start in the A/E/C industry?
My path into the industry wasn’t a traditional one. I was originally set on a career in journalism and earned a Communications degree from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. When I graduated in 2012, opportunities in the newspaper industry were limited, so I explored other roles and applied for a Marketing Assistant position with DBR. What started as an entry level role has grown into a rewarding career in A/E/C marketing.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of serving on the board?
The most rewarding aspect has been creating opportunities for members to contribute to the chapter through the Communications Committee. I’ve had the chance to work alongside talented volunteers who help tell our chapter’s story through our newsletter, social media, blog, and other communications efforts. It’s especially rewarding to see committee members build new relationships, develop leadership skills, and become more engaged in the chapter through their involvement.
How can A/E/C marketers demonstrate greater value within their organizations?
Marketers can demonstrate greater value by being involved in the bigger picture of the firm. By understanding their firm’s goals, client priorities, and market opportunities, they can help drive growth through pursuit strategy, relationship building, and business development support. When marketing is involved early in planning and decision making, the impact goes far beyond deliverables and directly contributes to the firm’s success.
